SINGING LESSONS

Teaching BA and MA students at the Guildford School of Acting has given me a great deal of experience working with students at a very advanced level, helping to prepare them for their profession in the Musical Theatre industry. However, I am equally enthusiastic about working with complete beginner singers, both young and old. I particularly enjoy working with children and teenagers, helping them find their individual voices rather than simply imitating what they hear on the radio.

I prioritise the development of safe, healthy, and robust vocal technique. However, lessons are never boring or lacking in musical enjoyment! As both a teacher and a professional singer I am a great believer in the ability that singing has to emotionally and physically benefit the singer and listener. Our voices are so much more capable and full of potential than we know. I have the privilege of frequently witnessing the surprise and delight of students who suddenly make a beautiful and impressive sound that they had no idea they were capable of making.

My practice is based on reliable scientific information about the voice and how to develop a healthy and flexible technique that can meet ever-increasing demands placed on it. My teaching style has been strongly influenced by the MA course that I studied at GSA, my training in the LCS method of teaching, and by my own experience and research. In lessons with me, students can expect to develop a greater awareness of the parts of the body that are responsible for producing the voice and how best to use them.
